Massachusetts officials are announcing that the Obama administration has approved $16.9 million in funding to help develop a statewide Health Information Exchange network that will allow for integrated care and aid in cost containment efforts.
The state’s Executive Office of Health and Human Services says the project will allow health care providers, hospitals and others to exchange clinical data through a secure, statewide network.
Gov. Deval Patrick said the project will help slow the growth of health care costs in the state, which spiraled in the wake of a 2006 landmark law that required nearly all state residents to be covered by health insurance.
The Legislature recently approved a bill designed to lower health care costs in Massachusetts. — AP
